Los Angeles is More

“Buried”

Second film : midnight movie.  Starring Ryan Reynolds, and pretty much only Ryan Reynolds.  It was a very intense movie, and it was a nail-biting experience just getting in to the theater.

We went out for dinner at 9pm, thinking we’d have plenty time to get to the 11:30pm movie.  Dinner (at the Blind Dog, delicious) took way longer than we thought and we ended up trying to run to the theater.  We hopped on a shuttle and somehow made it to the theater at 11:35.  We waited in line and the volunteers were sending people in one by one as seats became available.  Miraculously, we all made it in, except for Josh!  I felt terrible, but hopefully he’ll have a chance to see it sometime this week.

The film was very intense, as I said.  There was a lot of nervous laughter in the theater.  I wish I had stayed for the Q&A, because I heard it was pretty interesting.. I typically despise Q&A’s because no one ever asks good questions, and I don’t really care about seeing celebrities.  But apparently they talked about making the film in 13 days with no money, and how a Spanish producer came along and financed the film.

Well done!!  It felt like a real independent film, even if Ryan Reynolds was in it— it showed ingenuity and was done super low-budget.

My rating : 8.

Will you ever see it? : 68%.  I really can’t tell if they’ll be able to market this, but it is about Iraq and terrorism, so maybe it’ll be picked up!

You heard it here first : Confinement/isolation is the new torture.
