“HIGH School”

Wowee!  What a way to end my Sundance journey!  We saw this film last night at midnight, and I was so tired walking to the Egyptian Theater that I thought about just going home and going to bed.  I’m so glad I didn’t wimp out!

This one tells the story of a high school valedictorian named Henry, who smokes weed for the first time right before graduation.  When the vengeful principal (Michael Chiklis) enacts a drug test, Henry has to figure out a way to get the entire school to fail the test with him… you get the idea.

“HIGH school” was reminiscent of “The Breakfast Club” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.  It pulled no punches on the topics of drugs, sex, and teenage deviance.  Loaded with recognizable faces (Colin Hanks, Adrien Brody, Yeardley Smith) and unknowns alike, the casting was spot-on.  The high school students looked their characters’ age, not in their mid to late 20s like most high school student portrayals.

I won’t lie, I LOL’ed quite a few times.  There was no stopping the giggles.  “HIGH School” was just as funny, if not more hilarious, than “Superbad”, which I also enjoyed.

I’m going to give it a 10.  Yay!

I hope this gets released!  67%…  I’d be shocked if it didn’t get picked up, but what do I know?  These percentages are just my personal assessment of the industry, not based in facts or research, obviously.
